How do you get motivated to clean out messy, messy clothes closet???

Any tips to make it more enjoyable? Do you have a straightened clothes closet? How does it make you feel? Mine is full of piles of clothing, cant find anything. Rest of house is spotless....but I hate going into my closet!!! :-(

  1. Snort a few lines of coke...that'll motivate ya for sure.
  2. Dont, just move.
  3. turn on the radio and just start doing it.
  4. Put music on & think how lovely it will be when you're finished Put a treat aside for when you have If that doesn't motivate you - pull all the clothes out on the floor & then you have to sort through them & put them back away
  5. i now know the sort of person u r. a dirty idiot
  6. Sort it out and give your unwanted items to charity,I'm sure they would be grateful.
  7. Try thinking about roaches and spiders and all the different little bugs comming out of your closset. Because that is like heavan for them.
  8. I went out with my oldest (she had the same problem :) and we picked out some "fun" colorful closet organizers and shelves in different colors. I put them together for her, and then she organized her clothes and shoes once I was done. That seemed to work well for both of us. It became a family project. Peace :)
  9. Start over. Even though the clothes may be clean, wash everything in the closet and then organize it as you put it away.
  10. Think about how many "new" outfits you'll have that you haven't worn in such a long time! Your favorite shirt could be hiding in there!
  11. Hi, well i am a bit of a clean and tidy freak, so it comes easy to me lol. But what u tend to do the most is wake up one morning, think right a new day a fresh start, stick on some music, pull everything out, and get rid of everything you dont use or wear, then put everything back neatly, trust me you will feel so much better afterwards knowing its done and you dont have to do it again for a while - as long as you keep it in order lol!! gl
  12. Just do it as quickly as you can! I'm just the same!!\Have two bin liners, one to keep and one to give to charity! Just stick to the rule: If you haven't worn it in 6 months, give it to charity! Good Luck! ('',)
  13. sit on the pile of garbage in you closet... douse it in gasoline, then throw a match in it
  14. Try pulling out a bunch of clothes from the closet. Look at them and ask yourself when you last wore them. Then ask yourself if you would be caught dead being seen in them. Then get a large plastic bag and stuff those clothes into it. Repeat till you start to run out of enthusiasm. Then lock that bag in the trunk of your car and drive immediately to Good Will Industries or the Salvation Army whichever has the closest clothing drop off place and turn them in for a tax deduction. Repeat a few days later until anything you grab from the almost empty closet is something worth keeping.
  15. Think of all the new clothes you'll be able to store in your clean organized closet.
  16. My motivation is more clothes and looking better for several reasons- nothing is wrinkled when u wear it, u don't end up wearing the same things over and over b/c it's what's on top, plus by cleaning it out u have more room to buy new things. My g/f's and I do a clothes swap and then u get new clothes for free if u don't want to buy them, which helps to clean it out even more b/c u get rid of some things that might be a little outdated or not fit anymore. If u don't want to do it all at once, I would suggest do a little at a time by hanging things up as u wash them after u wear them- then you'll have a smaller and smaller pile as u get a larger and larger organization going and it keeps it from cluttering up another area of your house (like your bed or floor of your room where u can't hide it) Not to mention how great it will feel to have EVERY area of your house spotless finally! Just be sure as u hang them up, u keep like items together (pants, shirts, etc.) otherwise you'll have hung up things that r still disorganized though off the floor!
  17. Looking at a pile of unorganized slop should be motivation enough, right??
  18. what I did was had my Dad make a Calf. style closet for us, it's so nice, the clothes are no longer smashed together & I put the skirts on the top rack & everything else on the bottom rack, he got the supplies @ Home Depot & all of it cost $40.00
  19. Think off all the money you will find! When i have a clean out every month i find around £20 in loose change and notes from money i have just dumped in my jeans pockets and forgot about!! Money is always the biggest motivator!
  20. It feels wonderfull to get rid of stuff. I am starting to clean mine out again this evening. My hubby did his last night and after seeing it, I realized that mine is getting messy again. Just knowing that the next time you enter your closet you will be able to find what you need in no time at all is all the motivation you should need. If you need help in organizing it there are some great books out there on the subject, My favorite organization book is The Complete Idiot's Guide to Organizing Your Life. Good Luck and Happy Organizing, Jessica
  21. The motivation 2 clean a filthy closet is to buy more update clothes that why you'll have 2 make room in your closet . Look thru the clothes u don't wear donated them or toss them out. It will be hard at first, but once you get some new stuff, you'll want somewhere to put them.
  22. Since the rest of your house is so neat, pull all of the crap out of the closet and scatter it everywhere. Then you can see what it is that you are dealing with. Maybe make a pile of stuff to sell on craigslist.com
  23. Have an organization plan in mind. Treat yourself to some products like clear plastic boxes, hangers that hold multiple clothes, etc. My favorite is a rod with chains that hangs on the closet rod, doubling the hanging space. Have three boxes--keep, toss, donate. They say if you haven't worn something in a year, get rid of it. I cut myself a little slack and give it two years. But be ruthless. After you separate, immediately move the toss/donate boxes out of the room. Go through the keep pile and separate into hang, wash, repair. Set aside a whole day so you don't feel rushed. Have lots of coffee (or Red Bull), good music, and maybe a friend to help you. When you put things back, organize them by color. It sounds simple, but it makes a huge difference for easy outfit selection. As you're finally putting things away, note what's missing from your wardrobe (a nice jacket, a certain color of blouse, etc.), write it down. The next day, go shopping (your reward!) and pick up those items. I only do this once a year, but man it feels good!
  24. Wait for a friend to come over - they'll open your cupboard, say yuk & tell you to clean up. Being embarrassed by a good friend (or even your mum!) should be enough to get the dustpan out!!!
  25. make sure there is lot's of lighting, dull lighting in your bedroom will make you drowsy. Put on some of your fav music, and pull everything out at once, and put it in the doorway. This way, if you lose motivation and leave the room, when you walk back in, there will be a huge pile and it won't let you forget what to finish doing.. I have the same problem, and have to do this once a month..
  26. i have been there and at first it is very intimidating, its hard to believe how much us girls can accumulate but, once you get started it is very therapeutic. just begin on a day when you can devote the time, play an up beat cd, turn the phone off and conquer it. when i finally cleaned out my closet i could'nt believe i even had some of the stuff i had, i was more than happy to donate all of the stuff i did'nt want and i even bought a few new things, i suddenly had a bigger closet than i thought. you already admitted that the rest of your house is clean so just keep in mind how nice it will be to go to your closet and find exactly what you're looking for. i personally love baskets (they are great for storage and you can find really nice ones that look good on a bookshelf, your kitchen counter or on a desk, not just hidden away), i have several on shelves in my closet, under my bathroom sink, and hall closet to hold my large collection of purses, makeup, polishes, hair and body products. i also have a few really pretty hat boxes in two sizes stacked on top of one another to keep scarves, hats, and gloves in. i also got rid of all the old wire and mixed hangers and bought tons of white thick plastic ones (they don't crease your clothes so bad) and a belt hanger (to keep them together). then as i hung the clothes i decided was worth keeping i hung all like items together all jeans together, all dress pants together, all short sleeve shirts together, all long sleeve shirts together, all dresses together and so on. i purchased a few shelves that stack on top of one another for my shoes and i lay my boots on their side. i have done the same for my husbands side of the closet, all work clothes together, and like items together, his large collection of hats, and he has baskets for his razor and trinkets. my dresser, kitchen cabinets, and book shelves are just as organized, i group like items together and it not only looks really good, i can easily find what i need. i love my closet and i especially love that i can actually see and enjoy all of my things and that does feel good..
  27. My closets are cleand and organized for the most part! My best friend and I plan 4 Saturdays every month 2 for her and 2 for me! 1 weekend we both get a closet/drawer/cabinet cleaning and the other weekend we acomplish one major project! We box up every thing we don't want and take it to the trift store! Tax Rebate Girl Friend!!!!
  28. Go through it, sell what you don't want on Ebay and make money, then go and by yourself something nice for your effort.
  29. .Can't help, i have the same problem
