Is it safe for cats to drink gasoline?
I know this sounds like a stupid question, but I am worried about my cat. Now, you have to understand that my cat, Psycho B****, is quite adept at removing and destroying anything with a chrome finish. I don't know why. But my bathroom faucets have had to be replaced twice and the door to the washer was chewed off. I won't even get into the memory of seeing her chew off the trailer hitch on my truck *shudder*. Anyway, this afternoon I came out and saw that she had chewed off the gas cap on my truck. I am assuming she chewed it off because, while she is tough, I don't think she is smart enough to un-screw it. I digress. So I come out and all I see is her butt sticking out of the filler pipe. I, of course, yanked her out. But she was licking gas off her face and seemed to be quite delighted with the taste. Should I worry about her? Or should I change to a higher octane gas? Why is everybody mad at me? I saved her!!!! Mechanic...I think you judge a bit harshly. You don't know her.

- This is a stupid question. If your cat doesn't die. Please give her to a better family. Obviously you are derranged.
- NOOOO! If I were you, I would take her to the vet!
- Get a life and rehome the cat. You are not funny !
- ok first of your an idiot, second go take her to the vet for gods sake!, it can do alot of damage, go drink a little yourself and see how you feel ;)
- You should worry. Please make an appointment ASAP with the vet.
- Yes, you should worry about your cat since it is not safe for anyone or anything to drink gasoline. "Keep cats away from pressure treated lumber (arsenic poisoning), antifreeze (tastes sweet, but deadly), pesticides, gasoline, paint, paint remover or thinner, power tools, used motor oil, batteries... "
- Ummmm, I know alot about animals! And NO its not ok for cats to drink gasoline!! you may want to take her to the vet just in case shes not ok!! Just go to the vet!
- Why don't you go and set a candle beside her so she can see better.
- The only thing I believe about this fairytale is that you gave your cat an idiotic name like "Psycho B****"
- It's all good....just make sure you don't smoke around her for a few days.
- You have got to be kidding. What an ASS!
- WOW she has expensive taste! I would try to get her out of that habit as soon as possible! Antifreeze is cheaper!
- No dont make an appointment with the vet - make an appointment for yourself with the PSYCHIATRIST!!
- No, its not OK, take her to the vet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- I would still take her to the vets office maybe u didnt tell people that thats why thier mad at u
- Wow sounds like your cat is part lion or something, obviously drinking gas could only do more harm than good to the poor thing I suggest taking her to a vet, or maybe the zoo.
- if this happened take her to the vet before she gets ill if not stop being a idiot and grow up
- don't listen to these naysayers! actually, nine out of ten vets say that a bit of gasoline everyday is good for any type of domestic animal. i give my cats and dog a half a cup daily of gasoline, it keeps away the fleas and ticks and is great for their digestive system...the only draw back is the rising price of gas...i may have to cut them down to a quarter cup. i also bathe my animals in gasoline...great for their coats. like another poster said, don't smoke around them. i lit up a fattie once when doing this and i almost turned Fido into dinner. good luck and i hope this helps.
- I can't believe how rude some of the other answerers were! It sounds like you've got one hardy pussy there. I thought it was only dogs that would "eat anything," but it just goes to show you that anything's possible. I think the problem is that you're not giving little Psycho Brain enough water. Cats need water, in case you didn't know. That she drank gasoline probably means that she has a very weak sense of smell. However, that doesn't account for her being "delighted with the taste." Perhaps she has a bad sense of taste as well. I recommend a visit to a vet -- or a student vet, if you want to save money. But if it turns out that your cat's senses are fine, she may just be looking to get high, such as on gas fumes. If that's the case, keep your Sharpies locked up, and watch out -- it's only a matter of time before that cat is free-basing her cat litter, cut with your best whiskey.
- I had a cat that drank 1/2 c. of gasoline. While PB may be ... what she is ... and likely tears around the yard or house anyway like a maniac. My cat was much more docile. However, after drinking the gas she just started going nuts ... running around on the back lawn in circles for about five minutes before she finally stopped. Poor thing. No she didn't die. She just ran out of gas.
- Hahaha,,,I see you are at it again, only this time you seems to have gather some supporters. Seriously, if I were you I'll take her to the nearest circus & let her be a fire swallower. Think of the $$$ you can make out of that. Putting her on a diet of higher octane gas is a fantastic idea & should help her in becoming a world class fire swallower. With the $$ you make out of her performances, you should be able to afford space shuttle fuel, live in a fire proof mansion & drive a Posche,,,,
- Try the gas yourself, if it doesn't hurt you then it should be safe for all of us. Seriously, are you nuts?
- You've got to be kidding! Why on Earth would you even think so?
