How should I redo my bathroom? I'm 15 and a sophomore in high school. I love making my rooms look really unique. For my bedroom i painted it a really dark blue and got my really close friend to take paint markers and write me messages all over my room. How to get Cat to Stop Tearing Furniture? I have an older cat that scratches our furniture so bad he will actually rip it open. I have tried scratching posts and catnip and putting sheets over the furniture but none of it helps. He also scratches it when we are asleep at night or in the bathroom so we can never catch him. Why is my bathroom ceiling and cornice paint cracking? We have painted our bathroom ceiling and the cornices in our spare room with matt emulsion (water based) paint and within a day the pain began to crack badly. The cornice is mostly cracking where the old pain had cracked off and left the cornice exposed. The bathroom ceiling is newly re-plastered and we painted with a 50/50 paint/water mix first then two coats. Yet, we also painted the bathroom and bedroom *walls* with this paint, both newly re-plastered, and they DIDNT crack. What should we do? OK, thanks for the cause but what about the solution? sand and re-paint? new type of paint?
When painting a bathroom, do you have to use a special paint to withstand heat and humidity? I am going to be painting my bathroom this weekend. I was wondering if I can use the regular matte finish in there or do I have to get a little gloss so it can stand the heat. What is causing my bathroom vanity lights and fan not to work? In my master bathroom (attached to master bedroom) I have vanity lights (only lighting in the bathroom), a fan, and one outlet. The fan and the vanity lights are separate units. Last night, there was a thunderstorm and lightning, but given the circumstances, I don't think it's causing my problem. Last night, I turned off my lights and fan, and when I attempted to turn them on again, they did not work. The outlet, which I believe would be connected to the same power source as the lights and fan, does work. I attempted to switch all the circuit breakers on and off to no avail. FYI the circuit breaker is for the entire master bedroom, or at least labeled as so; so I would assume it encompasses the master bathroom as well. My guess would be it should be related to the switch, since it is related only to the lights and fan, and not the sole outlet. Can anybody else think of any other possibilities or suggestions what to do?
For a bathroom renovation, in what order should I do the projects.? I will be renovating my bathroom soon. I will do new tile around the bathtub, new linoleum, new paint, new fixtures and sink......basically all the bathroom surfaces, with the exception of the bathtub, will be new. I've done all these things (tile, linoleum) before and I am comfortable with it, but I've never done them all together as one complete project. How to install bathroom cabinet onto a wall that is tiled with porcelain? Our bathroom is tiled entirely with porcelain tiles (30 cm by 60 cm), floor to ceiling. We want to install a bathroom cabinet above the sink, onto the wall. Is it safe to drill into the tile? Do we need a special drill? What bathroom cleaning products are safe for acrylic? My landlord just had the "Bathroom Fitter" people come in and re-do our tub/tub walls with an all-one-piece acrylic wall and tub thing-a-majig. Anyway, on my old regular tile/grout walls I used to use Comet, Tylex and Clorox Cleanup to get it clean and kill any mold, but now I don't know what to use. I don't want to ruin the finish. The paperwork says to make sure you use a product that is safe for acrylic, but I was checking out some of the labels in the store today and hardly any of them specify whether or not they're safe for acrylic. How do I stop a drippy bathroom exhaust fan? The exhaust fan in my bathroom drips onto the bathroom floor constantly during the winter. I have had a new roof turban installed where it vents thinking it would solve the problem by allowing the condensation to vent up through the roof, but it continues to drip down through the exhaust fan and into my bathroom. It drips whether the fan is running or not running. It's very annoying as the fan is located in the ceiling in front of my sink and I can't stand there without getting water dripped down my back, not to mention the mess it makes on the floor and my rugs. What bathroom cleaning spray has no or little odor? And isn't overly harmful when slightly breathed in (accidentally, that is)? My bathroom location has little to no ventilation, and Fantastik or bleach sprays are simply intolerable during cleaning, and they leave a horrible gaseous smell for two hours afterward. How to train puppy to pee in bathroom? My puppy pees anywhere, except the bathroom, where i want her to go. When i see her smelling around and about to sit and pee, i quickly carry her inside the bathroom. But, when she's inside, she doesn't want to go. Unfortunately, the only place a bathroom would work happens to be in the area of the main electrical panel. Renovating small house for resale and need an opinion on bathroom vs. bigger kitchen? We have just bought a small (480 sq ft) small house with no basement to renovate and resell. It has one bedroom, small living room and very small kitchen and even smaller bathroom. The lot is big so we have already dug a hole, poured foundation and are planning on moving the house on top of the new foundation. So, the basement will have 2 bedrooms, full bathroom, laundry room and the mainfloor bedroom will be opened up to make a bigger living room. Ok...here comes the question...would you take the bathroom out on the mainfloor and open the kitchen or would you take the tub out (it's only a 4 ft long old tub) and keep a bathroom upstairs and keep the small kitchen? What preparation to use on plywood in bathroom before putting tiles down? I have 18mm plywood flooring (just laid) in my bathroom. I was wondering if I need to do anything to the plywood before I stick my tiles down on to it? Some more information.... The plywood is WBP. It is brand new and laid direct to the joists (not on top of other boards or flooring). I am concerned about whacking down cement based board on top of the plywood for the reasons cited by one of the answers given earlier (adding too much extra height to the floor level. The way I see it I doubt if the the addition of cement board is going to reduce any chance of flex or movement of the floor so this is only really adding a nice substrate for tile adhesion purposes. Assuming I make sure the plywood-only floor is absolutely solid with no chance of any flex then I guess I just need to make sure that the wood is sealed from moisture and has a decent surface finish that the tiles will adhere well to. That's all fine but I am still not sure exactly what product to paint all over the plywood to do the above jobs?
